[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Your logo is the face of your business. It is what ensures that you are recognized out in the community as well as amongst your competitors. A logo that has been poorly designed can have a negative impact on you as a business owner so it’s important to put your best foot forward in the beginning. If you already have a logo that isn’t the best quality, there is no time like the present to make a change.
When you are in the beginning stages of setting up a business, I know for a fact that your expenses keep growing. The last thing you want to do is go broke just to get started. This is why I absolutely LOVE Fiverr. Fiverr is one of the top freelance accounts that allows you to get almost anything created under the sun – especially one of the things you will need immediately, your logo! Believe it or not, many designers will create something for you at a FRACTION of what other designers or companies may charge, keeping this more cost-effective for you in the beginning stages.
Now, here’s the scoop! There are some things that everyone won’t tell you that I want you to keep in mind when hiring anyone. So get out your notepad because these gems are things that you will want to remember! When getting your logo from anyone and particularly on Fiverr, these are the things you should be looking for:
- Look for someone with GREAT reviews that note the designer is responsive. This means that particular designer is known for responding to questions and making revisions in a good amount of time.
- Try to find someone who allows for a higher number of revisions. I would rather sacrifice finding someone who has a higher turn-around time if they allow for more or unlimited revisions.
Multiple file formats are crucial! My recommendation would be to try to get the following:
- A basic jpg /jpeg file (This is your standard logo format)
- A png file (This is the transparent logo and is what you will need to put your logo on different things without the white background) See my example below
- A vector file (The vector is a file that allows you to increase the size of the original logo, yourself, without losing quality. Remember, a standard jpg/jpeg or png can be made smaller but never bigger. Going bigger will cause your logo to be pixilated and blurry – not a good look! A vector will allow you to make it the size of a building and still look as crisp and clean as the smaller version.
- Black & White file (This is optional but many designers will throw this in for free. You may need this version of your logo in the future for printing on merchandise or to be used in other publications that do not allow for color. This will ensure that your logo has not been washed out from automatic color correcting.
- Source Files (This is THE most important thing on your list. Even if the designer charges more for the source files, it is in your best interest to pay the cost and let me tell you why. If the designer disappears one day, leaves the business, or worse – without a source file, if you need to make changes to your original logo you will need to pay a new designer to try to first replicate it before making changes. This can get costly. Having the source files means that it includes the original file that contains all of the layers used to create the logo, along with fonts that may be impossible to match up, and images that the new designer may not have a license for or be able to find. A source file is as simple as opening a book where you left off and continuing on.
